Glossary

Here are some terms you should know in the world of weight training.

  • Repetitions (or “reps“): In every set, you will do the exercise X number of times, or “X reps”
  • Sets: Grouping of repetitions, for example “5 reps, 3 sets”. That means you will do the exercise 15 times total.
  • Volume: The amount of total weight (lbs) lifted in a period.

Here’s a list of terms that are not that important for a beginner…

  • Ramping up: increasing the weight from set to set in any given exercise.
  • Sets Across:  a number of sets where the weight used does not change from set to set.
